Oktoberfest in Full Swing

September is a month of celebrations for people all around the world. Since Nixon University has a   presence in over 120 countries all over the world, it has students belonging to a variety of cultural and geographical backgrounds which makes the experience of studying at Nixon one of a kind indeed. As September is coming to a close, people around the world are either enjoying or gearing up for the Oktoberfest celebrations.

Oktoberfest is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm not just in its native Germany but also in many countries across the world. Each year the festival attracts around 6 million visitors worldwide. Major celebrations outside Germany are in Canada, Brazil and United States (Cincinnati).  Each country has its own festivals and celebrations but certain features are common in all three.  These include the costumes, which range from traditional to more contemporary, the food, the beer and the music which is also a mix of the traditional and modern.

The festival is usually 2 week long and gives people over the world a chance to interact with each other and share the joy of celebration together. The Oktoberfest goes back to a hundred years. It originally started as the festivities following the wedding in the German Royal Family. However, today’s festivities infuse a flavor of each country into the Oktoberfest as well.

In the Oktoberfest Cincinnati (USA), celebrations include chicken dances and races as well as large scale parities where everyone can have a good time. In Las Vegas and Oregon parades and music festivals are a major highlight of the celebrations.  Canada’s Oktoberfest, which is the second largest celebration outside of Germany, features many beer-related festivities as well as cultural and entertainment attractions

Nixon University wishes all its students all over the globe a very happy Oktoberfest. Students are encouraged to share their experiences so that the University student community becomes more integrated and can learn from each others’ experiences.
